Don’t believe the hype; D[istrict]-9 was about as original as a bowel movement. Still, for a film that’s been praised as ‘social commentary sci-fi’ and who’s plot sorta centres on ‘humanizing’ aliens, the white South African filmmakers did a great job of dehumanizing Nigerians and thumbing their nose at black South Africans. I’ll be picking voodoo cannibal shaman stereotypes outta my teeth for weeks.
